HOW UPLAND INVASIVE PLANTS FUNCTION AS HABITAT FOR WILDLIFE
Non-native invasive plants have the potential to alter wildlife habitats by changing plant species composition and habitat structure. But the effects of invasive plants are not always negative to wildlife. Removal of invasive plants may very likely REDUCE habitat quality for the wildlife you are hoping to benefit. In this presentation, Matt Tarr will provide an overview for how non-native upland invasive plants compare to native plants as habitat for vertebrate and invertebrate wildlife. This presentation will help you decide if removing invasive plants is most likely to help or harm the wildlife in your area, and how to best plan invasive plant control projects that will improve wildlife habitat.
Presentation by Matt Tarr, Extension Professor and State Wildlife Habitat Specialist, UNH Cooperative Extension
