As energy costs continue to rise, the smartest thing to do is to insulate your home.
The cheapest watt is the watt not used!

WEATHERIZE PLAINFIELD & CORNISH 2023 is the third program from our Energy Committees to help residents save money, stay warm, and reduce their energy usage by weatherizing their homes. Weatherize Plainfield & Cornish is also a key component in our Towns’ campaign to reach 100% renewable electricity by 2030, followed by 100% renewable transportation, heating and cooling by 2050. Improved energy efficiency, achievable through weatherization, is crucial to achieving these goals.

What does it mean to Weatherize my home?

Weatherizing your home involves making physical home improvements, such as insulation and air sealing, to reduce energy costs, improve comfort, and resolve issues such as ice dams, moisture, mold, cold spots and drafts. Improvements often focus on basement and attic areas.

How much will it cost to Weatherize my home?

Every home is different. Cost typically ranges from under $5,000 to over $12,000, with average energy savings of 20-25%.

If your house qualifies, NHSaves will reduce the cost of an energy audit to $100 and will cover 75% of the cost of weatherizing, up to $6,000. Eligibility is based on heating fuel use per square foot. Funds are available from NHSaves on a first-come-first-served basis. If interested, take the Home Eligibility Calculator at NHSaves IMMEDIATELY to see if you qualify (see link below).  You will need the square footage of your house and your annual heating costs to complete the online form.  Contact your energy committee representative for help with this (contact info below).
Take advantage of these funds while they last.
Other incentives may be available through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

How do I Weatherize my home?

Your first step is to identify and hire a specialized contractor who will perform an energy audit to assess your home’s current energy efficiency and identify the best energy saving opportunities for your home and budget.

To reach any of the 6 BPI-certified Weatherize Contractors that are participating in this campaign, please email Joanna Sharf.

When should I Weatherize my home?

Why go through another cold, drafty winter?  Why suffer through the heat spells this summer? There’s no time like the present to take advantage of the NHSaves incentives and Federal Tax Credits and get the work done soon.

We recommend scheduling an Energy Audit by Feb 10 and signing a project contract by March 31.
