Tax bills are due in two installments on July 1st and December 1st or 30 days after the date of the bill, whichever is later. If these days fall on a weekend, the due dates will be for the next weekday. The tax office will be open 4:30 to 7 pm on the day the tax bills are due. There are two drop boxes available for drop off payments. One is on the outside of the building and the other is inside the building to the right of the Town Clerk’s window.
The July bill is an estimated bill and equals one half of last year’s total bill. The December bill, which is issued after the tax rate for the current year is set in the fall, is for the balance. The tax year is for April 1st to March 31st. The first billing of the year is for April 1st to September 30th and the second tax bill is for October 1st to March 31st.
Questions about any unpaid tax balances can be answered by the Tax Collector. Tax records are not available on line at this time. If you have a question about your assessment or abatement, you must direct your question to the Selectmen’s office and not the Tax Collector.
If you are elderly, disabled, blind, a veteran or veteran’s spouse, you may be eligible for a tax exemption or credit. For details and application information, contact the Selectmen’s office at 603-675-5611 or TownBos@Comcast.net.
A taxpayer may apply in writing to the Selectmen’s office for a tax abatement or deferral or are unable to pay taxes due to poverty or other good cause.
